Edinburgh Here I COME!!!!!!

Just setting off to Edinburgh for my two week stint performing the fantastic Big Boys Don't Cry by Elizabeth R. Davidson. Getting driven through be R & J Leather. A local leather furniture store who I had the pleasure of working with many moons ago! A massive thank you to Johnny Townsley and everyone connected with the store, who have kindly donated me almost all props for my set included a brand new 3 seater leather sofa!! Can't thank you enough, delivered to the theatre this is a magnificent gesture and help.....'you get by with a little help from your friends' :)
Technical rehearsal at 2.30pm with the fantastic Arron Ferguson who has kindly joined my team as my technician. Arron is also performing this year at the fringe with 'Not the Adventures of Moleman', hearing wonderful things about it, can't wait to see it!!
So there we have it friends....NOW IS THE TIME!! Two years in manifestation.....the adventure begins!

My thoughts on seeing the play at The Lord Stanley (Solo Festival)
"Bobby Bulloch brings to life a taut, clever and meaningful one-act play written by Elizabeth R. Davidson, in a performance that shows the vulnerabilities of what it really means to be ‘a man’.
From the opening moments Bobby’s performance is so strong, charismatic and layered, you can’t take your eyes off him. We invest so quickly in his character’s world, that of him and his partner, his place in the world and where, if anywhere, they’re going. He talks of the difficult relationship with his own father, then the news that he is to be a Dad himself, he revels in the potential pain and heartache, the terror and anxiety that sweeps over him during the pregnancy.
Obviously a lot of these issues have been covered in a lot of contemporary fiction, but there is something so accessible, immediate and real about this performance, that makes you feel it is a conversation, a confession about a man’s deepest inner turmoil.
The play is a rollercoaster of emotional states, funny, sad, shocking and elating. Ultimately it is a positive piece that validates the controversial idea that perhaps men are subject to sexism as much as women. ***** - 5 STARS"

BIG BOY’S DON’T CRY

Here it is folks....good start me thinks!! :)

Let’s face it – taking a show up to the Edinburgh Fringe is not for the faint-hearted. And when that show is a forty-minute play with you as the only cast member you really need guts. Thankfully Bobby Bulloch, in what will be his first performance at the Fringe, has them in abundance.

I caught a preview of Big Boys Don’t Cry at the Lord Stanley Theatre in London as part of London’s Solo Festival. Performed by Scottish-born, Bobby Bulloch and written by Elizabeth R. Davidson, from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, it digs deep into Scottish roots, Bulloch bringing to it an authentic Scottish burr that might take non-locals (myself included) a few minutes to tune into but delivers a story that, nevertheless, is universal to all.

It is told by Eddie; a man coming to terms with fatherhood and all the clobber, confusion, chaos and conflicting emotions that this entails. It’s an interesting male view on parenthood, but also the effects children have on adult relations, on male individuality and the relationships fathers-to-be have with their own fathers. (After all, who wants to make the same mistakes?)

Whilst the arc of the story might hold few surprises, it is written with wit, power and poignancy. Davidson, who sadly recently died, had an acute ear for the vernacular, producing gritty but heartfelt dialogue that laces humour into even the darkest moments. This, of course, relies on Bobby Bulloch performing the story with equal panache. I’m glad to say that he pulls it off. In Bulloch’s portrayal Eddie confides in the audience all the conflicting thoughts and emotions he dare not, or simply cannot, convey to his wife. It is a brave and truthful confession, delivered with unflinching fearlessness, Bulloch even taking on other characters with subtle physicality changes as Eddie mimics them.

A poignant, gritty, but also warmly amusing production, Big Boys Don’t Cry is well worth the ticket with a standout performance by Bobby Bulloch. As to whether big boys actually cry or not, well, I won’t spoil the end by saying; but if you are sat in the audience you at least might need a tissue or two.

Big Boy's takes on London and managed to attend my first movie on the Big Screen!!

Just arrived home from London having performed Big Boys Don't Cry at the Solo festival in the Lord Stanley Camden for three nights! I have to say that it went down very well and the shows in a great place to take in the Edinburgh Festival. A few wee tweaks and I'll be ready to take on the worlds biggest and best Performing Arts Festival!!
I have to give great thanks to all those who came and supported the show, and a special thanks goes to Kirsty Park, my ole flatmate, who very kindly took on the responsibility of doing the lights! Thank you Kirsty!! :) An almost faultless performance...apart from that one scene...at the end...20 beats plus after the lights should be off... I had to make use of my improvisational skills....which we're taught a lot in drama school by the by...thankfully :) ...and leave the stage..end of scene!! :)) It was a blast Kirsty, and I can't thank you enough...I don't know what I would have done without you!
Then onto Sunday morning my weekend in London coincided with the Premier of a movie I completed a little while ago in London, 'GotGot', where I got to put my character skills to the test with the awesome 'Mythic Man'. Loved playing the character, and especially loved getting my make-up done with two smashing lasses...so relaxing!! Ladies, you know what I'm talking about!!
It was a great experience seeing the film on the big screen, and I have to say to Dionne Edwards and the rest of the team at 'Teng Teng Productions', you all done a fantastic job, I love the final cut, it was such fun to be part of the project and a huge thank you for giving me the responsibility of bringing Mythic Man to life!!

Big Boys Don't Cry....2 Year in the manifestation...the time is NOW!!!! :))

Howdi Folks :) Now is the time...Now is the time...it's been 2 years in the making...two years in manifestation and finally Big Boy's Don't Cry has landed in my very own reality, and it will now almost take over my life for a couple of months. I will be taking this one man play written by Elizabeth R. Davidson on a mini tour!! I will be taking it to London and entering it into a Solo Festival at the Lord Stanley in  Camden to perform 3 shows Friday 19th, Sat 20th and Sun 21st of July.( Solo Festival London ) Then on to Edinburgh I go on to fulfil a dream of mine and perform at my home festival...which just so happens to be the biggest and most exciting arts festival on the planet!! I will be performing from 13-26 of August. If you can make any of the dates...London or Edinburgh...please come along to see a fantastic show!

Big Boy-s Don't Cry Tickets

Big Boys Don 't Cry was written by Elizabeth R. Davidson from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. Hamilton is the big town next to the small town, Larkhall, where I was born and bred. About 2 years ago I came home from London for my Great Uncle Alec's funeral, god bless you Uncle Alec, a wonderful man. It was there I got talking to my Auntie Rita, who is very pro-active in writers groups in and around central Scotland. She had been hearing all about my venture into acting and began to talk about this one man play from a wonderful writer, a local talent, in which she felt I would be perfect to play the part. She gave me a breakdown of the play and instantly I felt 'I need to do this!!'. Afterwards I returned to London and contacted Elizabeth over the phone to discuss the possibility of performing the show at Edinburgh. I had never met Elizabeth before and, not being very good on the phone myself, she was rightly so reluctant to send me her work, as this contains part of her soul. We decided I would pay her a visit when I returned home to Scotland for Christmas. I went to see her on boxing day with my Aunt Rita and we discussed my intentions. She asked me to read the script there then...and my oh my...I felt she had written it for ME!! I HAD TO DO THIS!! After reading it, Elizabeth could see I connected with it, she could probably feel I connected with it too, she was more than happy to give me her blessing to perform her work. Which made me a relieved and happy chappy!

Unfortunately Elizabeth passed away last year having been in poor health for some time. She has written many fabulous works, with the like of Tenement Tales selling out many runs in and around central Scotland. A fantastic talent and listening to those who knew her well, a wonderful lady. I am very grateful to Elizabeth for allowing me to perform her work, I will do everything within my Will, to ensure I do it justice.

18 Months - A film by Andy Stelmach (2013)

Hey All,
Here is a link to a short film completed earlier this year by the very talented film-maker Andy Stelmach. You may have seen an earlier short we created together 'Disorder', which I posted on my blog at an earlier date (it's still available for a peek if you scroll down). This is our second collaboration together 18 Months. We spent a weekend filming in a remote guest house near Stoke on Trent, with a very fabulous cast and crew.
I have to send out a big congratulations to Andy, Tom and Matthew who all  have graduated from Staffordshire University with a first class honours Degree in Film Technology, very well deserved of course. The future is very bright indeed,  next stop, feature film.....Spiralling perhaps?? :)
The film will be posted on my blog for a short period of time before it has to be taken off as it will be soon entered into various film festivals where it hopefully will receive the recognition these young talented film makers deserve! Turkey Revisited!!

Having spent a year of my life in the wonderful sunshine in Turkey as a Fitness Instructor and Scuba Dive Master a few years ago, I never for a million years thought I would have my picture in their most popular national newspaper!! My first feature film 'Shadows of my Guilt', has just had it's press release in Soho and has been entered into various film festivals, so we shall be seeing the finished product early next year. The director, Erdogan Gilgil is from Turkey and it has been well received in his homeland. So much so it has made the national press and a couple of screen shots of my good self appear! I wonder if a few of my good 'Dostums' (friends ;) in Turkey have came across the photo 's and are saying 'I recognise his face from somewhere'. Maybe...just maybe, it does bring a smile to my face! It's a funny old world!!
Just been finishing off the final few scenes and voice over work for 'Got Got', and now say goodbye to Mythic man...after a guerrilla shoot at 2am in a Waterloo underpass..great fun!
As the year draws to a close I am very optimistic of what 2013 will bring. Hopefully have a new short 'Split Personalities' to show you all before we say goodbye to 2012 and welcome in a beautiful new era for all of mankind! We may even see half a bum cheek in this short film, as I was naked in one of the scenes.....oooooo...hopefully no dangly bit's though...right enough, it was pretty cold!! ;) Much love folks, hope you all have some wonderful festivities! xxx
